Our Parish Story

St. Anne Catholic Parish is a warm and welcoming community located in the heart of Frenchtown, St. Thomas. What began as a small chapel serving the French West Indian fishing community has grown into a vibrant parish that embraces people from all walks of life.

We are blessed with a rich blend of cultures — Virgin Islanders, French, West Indian, Hispanic, Filipino, and mainland families — united by our shared love for Christ and our desire to worship together.

Founded as the Chapel of St. Anne on Christmas Day, December 25, 1921, under the leadership of Father John Guillo and Paul Dugal, it served the faithful of Frenchtown for decades. The chapel held its first communion in 1922 and welcomed its first married couple on November 29 of that year.

Positioned on Gallows Hill in the heart of Frenchtown, downtown Charlotte Amalie, the community’s roots run deep in the rich cultural heritage of the island. Elevated to parish status in [2023], the newly‑energized parish under the guidance of Fr. Ronan Sarmiento is committed to living our Catholic faith and building a strong parish home — rooted in worship, fellowship, and service to all.

“What we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us.”

— 1 John 1:3

Our Parish Story

St. Anne Catholic Parish is a welcoming church community that embraces faith, tradition, and unity. We celebrate the diversity of our people — local Virgin Islanders, French, West Indian, Hispanic, Filipino, and mainlander families — who all come together in worship and service.

Our Mission

To know, love, and serve God by fostering a community where faith is lived joyfully, compassionately, and authentically.

We commit ourselves to the Sacraments, to prayer, to service, and to building a parish family rooted in unity and hope.

Our Vision

To build a growing, spirit-filled parish where every person encounters Christ, discovers their God-given purpose, and finds a home in our church family.

We strive to be a beacon of faith for Frenchtown — a place of welcome, worship, service, and community for generations to come.

Our Parish Story

St. Anne’s began as a humble chapel in 1921, established by the French West Indian community who settled in Frenchtown. Over the decades, it grew under the care of devoted priests, religious, and parish families — carrying forward a beautiful legacy of faith.

In 2023, St. Anne was formally erected as an independent parish and continues to flourish today under the pastoral leadership of Fr. Ronan Sarmiento, C.Ss.R.

A Joyful and Diverse Parish Family

Our parish community reflects the beautiful diversity of the Virgin Islands. We are French, West Indian, Hispanic, Filipino, and mainland families — all worshipping side-by-side, united in the Eucharist.

This unity makes St. Anne more than a parish; it makes us a family.

Our Pastor

Rev. Ronan Nee Sarmiento, C.Ss.R.

Appointed in 2023, Fr. Ronan joyfully serves St. Anne Parish with a heart for music, community-building, and spiritual renewal. Known across the islands as the “singing priest,” he brings warmth, energy, and deep pastoral care to every ministry.

Leadership & Ministries

Our parish is supported by dedicated staff members, volunteers, and the Parish Pastoral Council, who help carry out the mission of our church.
